The slide included parts of Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests according to the USDA Forest Service. Occurring on May 25, 2014, the slide was approximately 2.7 mi long and 0.5 mi wide caused by moderate rainfall and runoff from snow-melt. Causes for the increase in vegetation departure a year after the event are uncertain.
